You will notice some nice improvements at the North End Cabin and trailhead this year. Thanks to the yeoman/person efforts of Elaine Adams, and her helper Kent, the interior of the cabin has seen significant sprucing up. We have retired all of the old posters and installed a nice photo display on the back wall that illustrates North End events, volunteers and trails. Some additional Nordic ski artwork is also planned to be installed. A string of almost all North End Classic ski hats has been hung from the rafters as well. The old photos of the cabin construction have been consolidated into a collage and hung next to the bulletin board, which has also been replaced. The benches inside and out, wood box and other areas have received a coat of paint or stain and the old rug will also be replaced. New lights and higher efficiency solar panels are slated to be installed also.
On the exterior of the cabin we’ve tried to touch up the gnawing of a porcupine. The outhouse and trailhead bulletin board have also been refreshed with stain and paint.
A slick new log hand railing along the steps has been installed, and out on the trails new, more detailed signage has been installed across the system. Finally, the red & white striped trail pass/donation tube has had a complete make-over with all of the old paint and rust sanded off and two fresh new coats of paint applied to the stripes.
A big thanks to Elaine, and Kent, and everyone who helped dress up our cabin and trailhead and to Charlie Leuthner for his work on the railing.
